Bristol Night Race I had a great time at the Bristol race last weekend. I love the track, the side by side racing, the passing on the outside or inside, the fact that there is probably not a bad seat, and the festivities and excitement that this race brings. The only downside was a little rain and a bunch of late cautions. The rain wasn't bad, but it did disrupt the flow of the race. It really started coming... more

Mid Season Report Card Is it mid season? I don’t know since I fell asleep during the Indy race. It has been an interesting season to date. It’s not what I would have predicted, but at least we have some great stories to bash… I’m mean blog about. Mark Martin – A+ - I want what he’s having. A geritol and viagra smoothie. Is he not the head rooster in this hen house? Tony Stewart – A+ - Coming out of the... more

L is for Loyalty As we head into the backstretch of the 2009 schedule, we also enter into turn 1 of the silly season. Seems like every day there is a new rumor of who wants out of their ride and who is getting the boot. Seems unfortunate we can’t even get to the chase before we may see new names in familiar cars. I don’t follow Reed Sorenson a lot, but I feel bad for him having to wake up every morning... more

Step Child As the NASCAR cup series drivers head off for New Hampshire, one cannot help but to think of an unwanted step child. No, this is not another Kyle Busch blog, but of one of SMI’s prized possessions… a NASCAR cup series race date. Loudon is in a fortunate position to have two such NASCAR races dates. It’s also in an unfortunate position to be one of Bruton Smith’s step children. Bruton... more

Danica Patrick My five year old son came home yesterday from his day camp with a sign he made. It read: *No groise alawd Boys alolwd* For some NASCAR fans this sort of sign would be posted at the tracks. Fortunately, NASCAR is not run and influenced by five year olds.... well, most of the time ;) more

The Squeeze is on In financial good times, everyone is happy. When things get tight, you find out where you really stand. NASCAR is not immune to the declining economy. We’ve seen NASCAR and NASCAR teams get squeezed by lower attendance at races, sponsors backing out or reducing their investment in teams and tracks, automobile manufacturers cutting back their support or financial assistance, and TV ratings... more

99.99 Percent Positive I haven’t been on much the last few days, so I’m not sure if this has already been discussed. It’s not a “dead horse” since I don’t really believe in that B.S. Dead horses are for intellectual midgets who don’t want to spend the time tossing around ideas, suggestions, and arguments coming to better understanding of how things really are... or could be. If intellectualism was the... more

Fan or Fanatic Fan – an enthusiast, follower, or admirer of a sport, pastime, or celebrity. Fanatic – a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm, zeal, support for, or interest in a cause, point of view, or activity. An excessive or overconfident devotion to a cause or belief. Take the test: 1. Do you enjoy the race only when your driver wins or does well? 2. When your driver does not... more

Things that make you go Hmmm Have you noticed? Jr’s win at Michigan was tainted because it was a fuel mileage win, but Stewart’s win at Pocono was not. Carl Edwards hasn’t had his normal success after he was called out for being reckless. Jeff Gordon’s wife, Ingrid, not standing perfectly still during the National Anthem was disrespectful, but Kyle’s smashing a trophy was not. Mayfield’s drug test results were... more
