I grew up in Northern Wisconsin. When I was five years old my mom started dating a race car driver. We would go see him race at a local oval dirt track on sunday afternoons. After a few years we started to travel with him to tracks on friday and saturday nights. I was really starting to like it. I started learning how to build a race car and an engine at an early age. He would get a car frame and build everything from the roll cage to the engine and even painted the car. I had so much fun going then and cheering for him on the weekends because I actually helped out on the car. Then once he started to get up to the modified class a few years after he started to make some connections and found people in the business to build his engines and build chassis and bodies for him. That was also a new level for me because I started to see how these people worked and that was still very educational. I started then going to even more races which were on tuesday nights and sometimes even thursday through sunday. Loved it and couldn't get enough of it. Unfortunatley by the time I was around 17 my mom and him broke up. Every once in a while I would go to a race on saturday to see how he was doing and cheer for him. Then I he bought a sprint car and moved to Florida and I never got to see him again. I talked to him on the phone once a couple years ago and we caught up but it sounded like he wasn't doing much racing any more. Now I still kind of miss that gap that I had inside of me for racing and being a part of a team. Now I head out to the local Go Kart tracks and rent a Kart and race but usually not impressed with the competition and leave still wanting more. I watch every Nascar race and also love catching a good dirt track race when it's on tv. Hopefully someday I'll find a way to fill this void.
