i,m an old drag racer from Dallas,Texas but i.ve loved NASCAR since i was a kid in the 50s. i went to a local track named the devils bowl. that is the first time i saw A.J. & J.Rutherford,Jim McElreath ,Lloyd Ruby. I started watching guys like Petty ,Junior Johnson,The Alabama Gang and so on. but after i got out of the army i got involved,shall we say, in a car running stock. that was the late 60s.I was with that car and my partner until 1977. I moved to the Houston area and retired from racing until I ran into some old friends from Denver who were in town. They needed help for the weekend and the next thing I knew I was involved in TOP FUEL. The hi-lite of my TOP FUEL racing was winning the "U.S.NATIONALS" at INDY in '81'. That made us National Champs that year. That team disbanded and a guy asked me if i wanted to go NASCAR for a while. That guy was Raymond Beadle of the "BLUE MAX" FUNNY CAR fame. i joined the team in '83'. our driver was a 'hard charger' named TIM RICHMOND. Tim was a great guy that caught a big bad break. Other drivers I worked with were B.P., Kenny S., Mikey W Bobby H.,& John A.My favorite year was 89. after Tim left us we hired a kid named Rusty Wallace. That was 86. That curly hair won the Cup in 89 & jumped all over the car that day. Barry Dotson [crew chief] thought the car would fail tech. Rusty left after 90 & so did I. I went to the PENNZOIL PONTIAC for 5yrs before I left. I left because MIKE WALTRIP left. I went to Petty Ent. after that and stayed there until the DOCTOR retired me in 2001. Now I just enjoy life with my wife of 40yrs come march 09 and the rest of my family and friends.
