But lets take a look at the numbers.
Career
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Average finish= 16.2
Wins/Year= 2.1
Kyle Busch
Average finish=17.0
Wins/Year= 1.75
This year
DEJ
Average finish= 10.3 (7.3 without California)
Wins= 0
KB
Average finish= 8.4 (5.4 without bristol)
Wins= 3
What can we get from that? That “Rowdy” is having a stellar year so far, but with one or two slip-ups or a couple Jr. wins could be closed in on quickly. Kyle Busch is driving better now, but one season does not a career make.
Lets look at a couple other racers I consider to be legends of the sport.
Rusty Wallace
Average finish= 14.5
Wins/Year= 2.5
Dale Earnhardt
Average finish= 11.1
Wins/Year= 3.4
Jeff Gordon
Average Finish= 12.3
Wins/Year= 5.1
Those are just three of the ones in the “Modern Era” Both Jr. and KB are having better years then these legends had in a career, but as I said before a year does not a career make. Both are great drivers that are worthy of hype, but to compare them with legends is premature.

Statistics...
If you have seen an official statistic to contradict these findings then show me them. These were found on an un-official, but unbiased website that is highly respected. I could not find an official statsheet for anything but this year.

Record
Comparison have been made to “driving style” and not to take away from another’s record or to compare to legends. Records are made to be broken & with the start in his young career, he is on his way to doing just that if it continues. So we’ll just have to see!

Perspective
Good blog, You mean he is human after all. With all of the blogs making him (scrub) out to be superman this really brings his short career into perspective.

WOW
I agree with ChickenMan88, that is a gr88t blog
Yep, Jr and Kyle are both having a good year. Sure, maybe Jr hasn’t gotten a win this yet, which I am tired of people bringing up, but he’s ran consistantly upfront so far. So I’m proud of both of them, plus others. Its cool you brought out that information. It is crazy to compare the racing now, to the racing back then. The way I look at it is that no 2 drivers are the same, they ALL make a name for themselves by their own marits. So really people need to stop comparing drivers from today to 10..15..20 years ago because the cars are different, tracks are different, rules are different, not to meantion, pit speed and stradegy is everything! So I agree Steamboat, how can people compare?
