You know…we all see stupid comments all the time. We hear them on the radioes, see them in the papers, and sure get our fair share of them in here!
Usually, I don’t even bother to care, much less comment.Sometimes, when I feel a little cocky, I might hit a few here and there, but only for fun.But the rest of the time, I won’t give the commentor the satisfaction of a reply. I don’t even reconize the comment at all.
Now here’s my problem: I’m getting sick of the “If you support Toyota, your unpatriotic!”
BS! I’m not even going into the whole “where it was made argument” either.
No, what really pisses me off is that the people who write those comments don’t have a freaking clue as to what being patriotic means!
I recently went to an airshow on board Marine Corps Air Station New River to see the Sounds of Freedom Airshow.
Now, I parked alongside thousands of other spectators, the majority of which were United States Marines!
Now, having to walk quite a long ways from the parking area to the viewing fields, I noticed something. The cars were made by pretty much all the manufacturers. Most of them had military stickers or dependant or retired stickers on all those makes of cars!
So, here is a question for all you “patriotic Toyota/Foreign car haters” to answer: Which member of our armed forces are you brave enough or rightious enough to call “Unpatriotic”?
Thats right! Are you that brave? Do you think that your soooo right about it that you can say without a doubt that they are “unpatriotic? What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue? Cat got your big brave self? You too scared to speak?
Or did you just realize that you said something so freaking stupid without thinking about it?
See, here’s the deal: The members of our Armed Forces do what they do because they want to! They were not drafted! They did not join at gunpoint! They weren’t secretly abducted by Uncle Sam!
But what they did do is join an elite group of heros who put their lives on the line 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for however many years at a time! They go cold, hungry, weary and get hurt and killed for it just to protect your right to call them unpatriotic!
They leave behind husbands, wives, children and families knowing they may never return just so they can protect us or make a difference in the world! Just so you can sit back and bask in the freedoms that you take for granted!
Those may be your God given rights, but they are your military enforced and protected rights!
Now, who’s gonna be the first one to step up and call the first one “Unpatriotic?
Thats exactly what I thought!

I agree with moparman62 100 percent. But the whole toyota arguement is rediculous. The fact is toyota is the only manufacturer that makes and assembles their cars is the U.S. Ford, Chevy, and Dodge manufacture their parts here but they are assembled in either Canada or Mexico. Patriotism has nothing to do with material items like cars. Patriotism is what you believe in and stand for as a person. Some people feel patriotic by serving their country. Others feel patriotic by serving their community. And the list goes on. No one has the right to tell anyone else that they aren’t patriotic. If you do then you yourself have proven yourself unpatriotic by Judging that person on what they believe.

as a 25 year Navy retiree
I can tell you that patriotism is all about being able to buy a Toyota if you want to. It is about freedom and doing what I want with the money I earn. Personally i wouldn’t let a Toyota park in my drive, but that is my choice and I don’t judge anybody else’s choice. My reasons are purely economic and fall under the heading “rooting for the home team”. Most people have no idea about patriotism, I wonder how many of these “patriots” even bother to vote?

Detroit
Starting losing its title as the motor city during the embargo of the early 70’s. Then sold out to Mexico. Finally they are setting up in China as we speak. The Big 3 do not give a hoot for anyone of us unless we purchase one of their cars. But if you have a problem with it they have never heard of the particular problem that you are talking about. Ford and Chryler were saved by Iaccoca. Who will save GM?

I grew up a bowtie guy
just because my dad was I guess. I was a Richard Petty fan and grew to like Plymouth especially when the road runner was a hot car. When I had a family and had to have a car that I could depend on that didn’t cost me an arm and a leg to operate and maintain I chose a Subaru. Was it because I was unpatriotic or did not support the American auto makers any more or their employees? No, it was because the American auto makers failed to meet the needs of Americans, they stopped supporting us. Just as now, those that feel it’s wrong for Toyota to be in Nascar need to look at Detroit and their failures in the market not Toyota’s success.

North America
is in such financial turmoil that some people feel they have to blame foreign companies for certain problems when Walmart, a home grown company is a serious problem. Over the decade it slowly eliminated North American content to a point where you can no longer purchase anything of value that is not made in China. It is such a problem that the chain is opening ‘upscale’ stores for people who will be fooled that they are purchasing quality, once again from China. We are buying away our choices because big business has sold our rights and freedom to choose what we buy. I choose not to shop at walmart for many reasons but find it so hard to purchase anything made in the USA or Canada, even Mexico is better to me than made in China. So much for freedom of choice. Thank you big business for selling our choices to make even more billions than the billions you were making before.
cheers,

Fishing for some trouble?
Great blog fish. I would love one of those keyboard bullies to come up to my door and call me unpatriotic. With My big American Flag flying in my Yard. They will be giwen a lesson in manners. I have carried a rifle on foriegn soil during a military conflict. I own a GMC Truck assembled in Canada and a Nissan Truck assembled in Tennessee, but choose to follow a driver in a Toyota. That is my right and freedom. And I will continue to do so.

Great Blog!!!
A make of cars have absolutely nothing to do with patriotism as you point out it is stupid to say something so crazy. As a retired Army sergeant, I have never had my patriotism challenged. You will find few who question others, have ever put the bodies where their mouths are.

I wouldn't say one is unpatriotic
but perhaps one is just engaged in folly or maybe they’re ignorant of the true ultimate consequence of their choices.

Great Blog!!! 5 FLAGS!!
As a Navy Veteran (joined when I was 17) and a retired U.S. Government Employee nobody had better EVER question my patriotism. Funny thing is, the people that say stuff like that probably have never thought of serving this Great Country. They are flipping burgers somewhere!
GO FISH!!
