Fike was arrested in the parking lot of King Island
amusement part.
ARTICLE
You’re right, I don’t see how NASCAR can say it’s working just working fine. If Fike hadn’t been caught in the parking lot, no one would ever known yet. This should be prime example that it’s not working. IF THEY WOULD HAVE JUST PULLED A RANDOM SAMPLE, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN CAUGHT THE PROPER WAY.
Something so simple to pull for race weekend. I think a little extra dollars spent on urine processing is a lot easier than finding a seriuos injury to a driver in a racing accident as a result of “use” or death. Ending a career or life is a far cry over a urine sample testing every once in a while.
Maybe they’re waiting on the team owners to pull a ramdon drug testing & pay for it. Maybe owners need to stand up & start taking precautions every once in a while to prove they’ve got the drug free drivers. It’s a thought.

I think...
that since every driver out there is required to attend the driver’s meeting before the race, then on the way in they gotta pick up a cup and drop it off before they can leave…those who think they can get smart and not show up to the driver’s meeting will simply not race that day. PARK ‘EM if they don’t wanna comply!! I believe they should begin a no questions asked approach to this situation!!! Lives are in danger every time they get on the track, but add drugs in the mix and you got one helluva awful mess just waiting to happen!!!

Ugh...
You’re right, NASCAR needs to step up. I answered a “trivia” question yesterday that stated Fike was kicked out of NASCAR due to drug use. I had read otherwise but apparently even some NASCAR fans think NASCAR caught him. Maybe after reading your blog the “trivia” question may get edited.

Helton ought to be...
Ashamed for his lackidaisical approach to this issue. Again I ask : WHO would be against regular Drug-Tests in NASCAR, besides anyone using?? Take away all doubt that you WILL be tested, and those that are serious will have no problem with it, since a serious racer wouldn’t be using in the first place.

Basball started off with "reasons of suspicions"
and you see where that got em! I agree, if its got nascars name on it , then it thier problem as well. Dont out this off on the teams , so it doesnt come back on them! That weazelly!! (if thats a word)

good luck finding that out. When I made my comment on this before I couldn’t find any policy other than the “reason for suspision” one that we all already know NASCAR has in place. That’s been proven to fail. Sure you can expect the owners to have something in place, but how then have we already had the amount of cases we’ve had over the last few years? It needs to be a joint effort by all, including NASCAR. If they’re worried about publicity, then they need to hire some one smarter. Any kind of publicity can be played right.

He was 15 miles
from my house when he shot up and got busted. That was too close for my comfort. I can’t imagine being 2 feet from him at over 140 MPH and being loaded.
I have a hard time believing Aaron’s statement. He made it sound like he shot up and got in the truck. There ain’t no way with the side effects of Heroin. He would have to have been a long time user to develop a tolerance to do that or he shot up hours before and it wore off. Either way, if Nascar doesn’t want to get their “hands dirty,” they need to get an outside party to test.

It is a governing body issue
and I agree with Realist. Being proactive can save a life, reactive can take one or more away.

exactly
i see this as an owners issue…. does anyone know if nascar requires the owners to have a policy in place?

I’m sure they have some sort of workers comp. insurance. It’s a wonder the insurance companies don’t require it.
