if they are literally tied in points and number of races won(carl won one than jimmie but those points were stripped due to cheating) they are tied for first in points. why does carl get top billing?

It all started from scratch after the Chase started
But Jimmie only caught up with Carl, he didn’t pass him in points. So since Carl was already second, and Jimmie didn’t exceed his points, Jimmie only moved up beside Carl. Carl already owned the spot so he is listed first in rank!

I may very well be wrong. With as many changes that have taken place in NASCAR’s point system, it’s hard to keep up with the rules.

I do think your wrong. My understanding is a points tie is broken by number of wins, 2nd place finishes, 3rd place finishes and so on.

I may be wrong,
But I think when there is a tie for points, the rank is set by Owner Points. The #99 car has more Owner points than the #48 car. The same is true for the #88 and the #31.
