Kyle Busch, the 50th Daytona 500 and the #18 Toyota

Monday February 18, 2008 @ 11:53 AM EST

Man what a race we got to watch. Even the announcers were talking about Kyle and how it would take a mistake by him to lose the race, which I believe happened during his last pit stop when he had to get pushed back into his pit area. Other than that he ran a near perfect race. I know someone will disagree with me but this is my blog. Actually it is my first ever. Let me know what you think. Plus I must mention his pit crew, they were getting him in and on his way fast. One 4 tire stop took 12.8 seconds, I liked that allot.
Back to the race. I couldn’t believe that Kyle started 24th, so far back in the pack. I was really shocked by his starting position. The way some of the other teams were running, I figured Kyle might make it up to the top ten, maybe even the top 5. This is mainly because of the hype the Hendrick teams were receiving before the race. I’m not taking any thing away from that superstar team, they do have the talent over there. Junior ran a great race, he just didn’t have any help from his team mates. Casey Mears tried, but got ran into the wall and was out. As a side note, I think Jr. is an incredible talent and has to put up with allot of media attention. I’ve seen many interviews of his and he truly is a great kid and someone any of us would like to hang out with. As I am watching the race progress, Kyle is starting at 24th, then he is up to 18th, then top ten and then in contention for 1st. I was just blown away by his ability to drive up to the front during the race. At least he will be in the books for most laps lead during the 50th running of the Daytona 500 and a 4th place finish.
Another item of interest, to me, was how the #18 Toyota was handling all day. I might have missed it, but I don’t remember the pit crew having to adjust Kyle’s car the entire time. They had that thing dialed in, and it told by Kyle’s ability to maneuver that car around the track. Even Tony Stewart told Kyle, during one of the later caution flags, he couldn’t make some of the turns he was able to make. Now that was a complement to Kyle’s ability.
Man this kid can drive. Two second place finishes and a 4th all at Daytona in 3 different racers. He was smoking hot this weekend. I also was impressed by the team work of the JGR teams. They are working and communicating as a team, OK for this race they were, but I believe they want a championship and bringing on Kyle Busch might have been the right move.
GO KYLE BUSCH!!!

    Glad to see

another Kyle fan! Congrats on your 1st blog, it was a good one!
I am so thrilled to hear the commentators giving our boy the credit he deserves. For so long they only focused on the negative with him and I believe he deserves all the positive attention he is getting these days!
I am glad that you mentioned Kyle’s pit crew. I was very impressed with their performance and have been remiss in not giving them the credit they deserve. So thanks again for mentioning them!
Kyle did drive a nearly perfect race and I am glad that he will once again be in the history books!
Tell me if I was seeing things, but did he drop below the yellow line while advancing and have to drop back? I thought that was the move that lost him the race? It slowed down his initial charge to the front on on the last restart. Oh well. He was awesome all day and I am so thrilled to see him come out of the gate so strong! We have an exciting season ahead of us biggrin.png
BTW, if you haven’t already done it, check out Kyle’s official crew. Our numbers are strong and groing!!

    Yes

That one mistake hurt dearly. But it is a long season. That 4th place finish and the 10 bonus points will be big down the road. I’ll take it anytime of the year.
