Some of you may remember my last blog which was pretty much just a conversation starter. It was about Tony and his seemingly out of character humbleness after the incident at Bristol. Well, I will now present the other side, many of which you agrued for.
Last night I was racing in an online NASCAR league I participate. I’m currently 4th in points, and we were racing at MIS. typically we run 50-100 laps depending on the track, MIS was a 75-lapper.
I run with a great group of guys, we race eachother hard but clean. We rub, bump and run, normal racing is what I’m getting at. Ok, ok, ok whats my point? Somewhere around lap 55 I was racing side by side for 2nd place with a good friend whom I’ve known for a few years now. I had him pinned along the bottom line in hopes of slowing him down to take the position away. His car wasn’t handling well and while I was completing the pass he crept up on my back quarter panel causing me to spin and wreck on the outside wall. Now, I wasn’t happy that this happened (it dropped me down to 6th in the overall standings). But at the same time I wasn’t furious or even angry at my competitor, heck, he even apologized as soon as it happened.
This guy is just a great racer, he knows when to push it and when to let the other guy go by. So, I know the wreck wasn’t intentional and I was ok with it. Darn it, where my point?!?
I guess I’m saying, now I understand that what happened between Smoke and Harvick was an accident. They are great buds and respect one another. However (and theres always a however), I wasn’t racing for some serious cash, jsut bragging rights… I think I’d be upset in Tony’s situation but I understand it a lil better now.

Another viewpoint is
that fact that they don’t deliberately try to wreck the cars. That’s an awful lot of money they take chances with.

Wud up bC!
Thanks for the comments. Karbear, I always see the otherside, I’m quite open-minded.
Even in my online league if it would’ve been this other guy (we’ll call him kurt), you can bet your last dollar I would have been yelling obsenities (SP?) into my mic! lol

this is great
this is great insight on how drivers probably act towards each other. had it been kurt busch, we may have seen a different tony.

Good to see
you’re coming around to my way of thinking about that incident, Monkey. Friendship should always win out over everything. Serious cash? Well yeah, but neither one of them is hurting in that department.

Friendship and Trust
Bottom line is their friendship is more important then that one race. And that is cool
