My oppionion about HMS

Monday October 29, 2007 @ 11:12 AM EDT

I’m tired of the HMS teams ruling this sport. It’s only a matter of time that it starts damaging our sport. I know it’s not like Basketball, Football or a lot of other sports where you can put a salary cap in place. They couldn’t do that in NASCAR.

But something needs to be done to help even out the playing field soon. Even though Tony will be using Toyota when that manufacture figures out how to win in NASCAR (and Toyota will and has in other leagues of racing) that they don’t start dominating as well. I’m a Tony Stewart fan and have been since 2000. But I love close finishes and close championships and the sport is much more enjoyable when there is a close race and not a tortoise and hare syndrome going on. I want a season where the most a driver has is 3 wins and the rest of the field has a chance including the smaller teams. That’s racing! I’m sorry but the rest of the races don’t matter to me. I haven’t watched a race in 2 weeks because of the HMS domination. I’ll get back into it next season and hopefully it’s not the HMS show again. Cause I won’t be part of that show.

The COT was supposed to help and really has not even though Hendricks tried and was fined because of it. But that’s just another area HMS dominated. They put more money than any other team into testing that other teams could not keep up. Whether it’s engine, setups or springs and shocks. They are putting all the money they can into finding ways to get the cars to do what they want. And they are getting it done.

Now other small teams have a hard time keeping up with this and will eventually fail. Sad that these teams will never have a chance. I believe Ginn Racing fell because of it and they probably had the best chance of being the next good team to come in to our sport.

It’s going to be next year or the probably not the year after that but eventually it will not be worth the time for these new teams to belong to our sport. Take Joe Gibbs for instance. If he tried to get in to our sport now would he have been where he’s at today? I’d say no at this point. But that’s my opinion and we will never know that answer.

But NASCAR needs to look at what this is doing. I’m not saying it will happen, but this could damage the sport to a state where it may never recover.
