he will become the first driver to win a race in all three of the top tier NASCAR series in successive starts. Busch has won twice in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2008 and I’m sure he hopes to add Saturday’s Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Speedway to last weekend’s NASCAR Nationwide Series and Sprint Cup sweep at Joliet’s Chicagoland Speedway.
Busch already is a member of an exclusive club, namely those drivers who have won in all three national series in a single season. Terry Labonte in 1995 and much to my great dismay, Kevin Harvick in 2003 also pulled off the “triple whammy”.
Just another jewel in the crown of NASCAR’s current “prince of darkness”, who leads the NSCS by winning seven races this year so far. While Busch has never piloted a truck at Kentucky he did win a Busch race there in 2004, he was running second at KY last month when events conspired against him so it’s clear he knows the terrain well.
Of course the milestone is secondary to Busch’s goal of obtaining an owner’s championship for Billy Balew. Said Kyle, “I want to keep Billy up front and no one else can do it,”. “I think it’s cool that as long as he’s been in the sport, he’s finally got a chance to win a championship and I want to help him keep that alive.”
