I’ve thought about writing this blog for a few weeks now, but, this morning as I catch up on the overnight news, I saw headlines and a picture that got me started! When my browser opens, it is to the AOL Welcome page. From there I peruse the headlines on each page. News, Entertainment, Sports and so on. When I get to the Sports page and there they are, sensational headlines and a picture of a racecar on fire! “Fiery Wreck at Talladega Two drivers sent to hospital; One leaves on Stretcher” Next to this is a picture of Franchitti’s car in a spin (not yet hit by another car) with flames coming out of the exhaust pipes. As we all know, in this case, these flames are normal and not the car on fire!
Under that headline, and also next to the picture, is the second sensational headline. “Driver Makes Colossal Mistake That Could Have Killed Someone”
The media, in this case AOL, is using this scenario to suck in NON-NASCAR fans to read these articles, which hardly mention the great last lap racing between Tony and Jr. Unfortunately, this will not make those people fans, I believe just the opposite. Those folks are more likely to say, “See, racing it TOO dangerous, wastes gas and should be illegal.” I’d rather these media outlets have nothing then have potentially negative headlines and stories.
Now, I don’t want anyone to get the idea that these wrecks should not be written about or commented on. Or that I am not concerned about the drivers when they are in a wreck. I noticed right away that Dario’s window net did not come down after the car came to a stop. But I don’t watch racing for the wrecks, I watch racing for the RACING and wrecks are just a part of racing.
I’d put a link to this page, but there is no link to post.

Real race ..
fans – go for the racing. Years ago I was at one of our local tracks in CT. when Corky Cookman’s car went thru the barrier fence and into the stands 10’ from us … the fan’s – speedway employees – and – Corky himself lifted that car and helped the ones needed. In the end that night no one was killed – allot of tears – and more safety measure where put in place. Same as NASCAR. And Stafford Motor Speedway still lives on today.

Great Blog
And I agree completely. Keeping in mind that this is Talladega and it’s famous for the “big one”.

I for One
Am so sick of the media sensationalizing anything and everything they print these days, twistin the facts to gain viewers and readers. Its gotten to where I dont trust anything they say. I refuse to even watch local news here anymore cuz they sell everything as “Dramatic Coverage” and it’s always a let down when they get to the actual BS story

Good Blog Pug
If the media wants readers, they need to pay more attention to what they print, and how they print,These wrecks they display are just another attempt at being #1 in their world,In my world it’s the race that makes me want to read a story.Sensationalizm is a very evil reason to dispaly a Driver that could have been killed,Tan what would they say?.
