A refreshing 86 degrees at 11 a.m.

Friday August 29, 2008 @ 02:25 PM EDT

It’s hard to refer to anything over 80 as “refreshing,” but when it comes to late August weather in the Inland Valley, 86 is about as comfortable as you could ask for.
Don’t forget: It was well over 100 for this race two years ago, so the idea of not melting while walking through the garage area in long pants is a bonus.
It’s still amazing to drive in Los Angeles rush-hour traffic and wonder how anybody ever gets home. The ride from LAX to Ontario last night took 2 1/2 hours. Now, Southland locals might laugh at the route I took — 105 to 605 to 60 to 57 to 10 — but I thought I might miss some of the worst of it. But there were only a couple of miles where we got anywhere close to the speed limit before it packed back in again.
It reminded me of watching a race at Bristol in super-slow motion.
