A cool and windy start to the morning, but the sun’s out. That hasn’t been the case for a lot of my races this season.
NASCAR officials were busy trying to stick the wadded-up No. 00 into a Hutcherson-Pagan hauler for the trip back to North Carolina. A few fans were watching from the other side of the chain-like fence.
Took a quick stroll through the garage area, where crews were firing up the engines for a plug and leak check. Man, there’s nothing like standing within six feet of one of these fire-breathers.
Even just idling, they jiggle your insides from that distance. I can’t imagine sitting in the cockpit with that thing at full song, rattling your bones for three-plus hours at a stretch.

The sound
The sound at a Nascar race…heck any race is EVERYTHING! Whether is standing near a single car as it’s fired up or sitting in the stands as they round that last corner for the start of the race, the sound will give me goosebumps and bring tears to my eyes every time. To anyone who has never experienced it first hand, you just can’t imagine it.

Thanks Mark
That mental image has helped take my rainy Sunday to race day ready! Wish I was there with everyone!
