It never rains in Southern California

Friday February 22, 2008 @ 08:48 AM EST

“Seems it never rains in southern California.
Seems I’ve often heard that kind of talk before.
It never rains in California, but girl, don’t they warn ya?
It pours, man, it pours.”
Albert Hammond got it wrong.
From the time I left the motel to go find dinner last night (around 7 p.m. local time) until I woke up, it’s been a steady rain. In fact, it’s raining harder right now than it has all night.
Just checked the radar on weather.com and at least it appears the bulk of the rain has passed.
If I had to venture a guess, the most important things on the schedule today would be:
1. Sprint Cup practice
2. Sprint Cup qualifying
3. Nationwide practice
4. Craftsman Truck qualifying
Why? There are 49 Cup cars here, and NASCAR would really like to get them on the track rather than send six home without a shot.
I don’t believe anyone’s going home from the Nationwide or Truck fields, so qualifying would be moot.
The good thing: The weather on Saturday looks much better.
The bad thing: The weather on Sunday does not.
