Shannum
yes, the circle of life continues. Sometimes the events that sadden us the most help us also remember some of our happiest. I’m so sorry for your losses

2001- what a year
I remember my father-in-law lost his voice to cancer 1 month before Daytona-01, my mother had a stroke on Ground Hog Day, I was home in time to watch the 500…everyone knows what happened there.
My mom died a week before Jr won the Pepsi 400.
My first great-nephew was born the following year (2002) on the anniversary of Dale’s death and we were at Daytona that year- our first race to witness in person.
The cycle of life continues

I, too
remember watching Dale Jr win, and thinking as he crossed the finish line that the nay sayers would be telling us all that the race had been fixed!!! I let that cloud my happiness at Jr winning, not because I believed it, but because I felt it would be discounted as a “fixed” win. Now, 7 years later, I can look at that race (yes, I recorded it) and CHEER!! LOUD AND LONG AND STRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and KNOW that Jr won it, fair and square! it wasn’t a fix!! He WON
that race!! D’ya know what I mean?
and 29, yes, sharing the race with friends has become so much more important, maybe because that’s all I have. I’m not travelling to a race anytime soon, all I have are my friends!

Who I watch them with
is important and I met some really cool new people last year and enjoyed watching the races with them even if some of them were in another country. Let the good times roll!

ME, TOO.
THE LOSS OF DALE SR WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED, BUT ONE OF MY FAVORITE MEMORIES HAPPENED LATER THAT YEAR. WE WERE IN PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL WHEN DALE JR WON THE PEPSI 400 ON HIS FIRST TRIP BACK TO DAYTONA SINCE LOSING HIS DAD. WE SAT IN THE HOTEL ROOM THAT ENTIRE NIGHT TO WATCH THE RACE. IT WAS A VERY EMOTIONAL WIN, NOT ONLY FOR JR, BUT FOR ALL FANS OF BOTH HE AND HIS DAD.

I know
Crtny, I replay that day in my mind every year when it is time to race again. I remember comments, commercials, weather here that day, all of it. I dream of it. I relive it. It still hurts.
