Coming to Michigan for a race is nice, with the added bonus of staying in nearby Ann Arbor, Mich., if one so chooses.
Ann Arbor is a really nice college town, except for all that Michigan football stuff that’s everywhere you turn. Strolling through downtown Ann Arbor before and after dinner Friday night, it was hard to miss and impossible to ignore.
So this morning I did what I had to do. I donned my bright red Ohio State golf shirt and headed out in public, knowing I might be pushing the envelope. But I had to take a stand for all my fellow Buckeyes.
It didn’t take long to evoke a reaction. Five minutes later at breakfast, the young lady making sure everyone had plenty of eggs looked like she wanted to throw some from the latest batch in my face.
“You are a very brave man, sir,” she added with a sinister smile, before also informing me, of course, that she is a Michigan grad and diehard Wolverine fan.
Bring ‘em on! Now let’s see what kinds of reactions I can get at Michigan International Speedway.

haha…I saw a lot of people on TV wearing OSU gear at the Michigan race. It was great…I mean if here in Ohio, we see someone wearing Michigan gear, all hell is about to break loose!! I don’t know what it’s like in Michigan…they probably think they are all big and bad, but who has been winning the game each year?? yeah…OSU!!! GO BUCKS!!! Michigan’s got nothing!! I do like their colors tho…lol

I`m a lifelong resident of the Columbus Ohio area
Born and raised here. Liked your blog. It can be a friendly rivalry, but it can also be taken to the extreme by some fans. And on game days it usually is.

GO WASHINGTON
Your should try wearing you favorite team/drivers shirt and hangout in a crowd of opposing fans, it should be a great day to be a Nascar fan, or at the very least, it would be interesting. Especially if it rains.
You’ve got guts, and it sounds like you got the reaction & entertainment you were looking for. Great story.

I am a "MICHIGANDER"
and while I grew up in Ann Arbor I graduated from Eastern Mich University. I can pretty much promise you that you won’t receive much reaction from NASCAR fans at MIS if you wear your Ohio gear. For one, there are completely different folks at the race than you encountered in the heart of Wolverine country. If you get booed, have beer bottles thrown at you, or flipped the bird because of your Buckeye hat, send me your hat….I’ll eat it.

You're a good man, Joe
I was up in Ann Arbor about two months ago and actually saw someone parked on the street with an OSU decal and a Michigan plate. Then again, being from Toledo, I’m used to that sort of thing. We actually have a joke that says, “You know you’re from Toledo when, depending on what colors you wear, you know you won’t be able to talk to half of your friends on the day of the OSU/Michigan game.”
