Rain at Richmond

Thursday September 04, 2008 @ 10:53 PM EDT

This is not the first time we have had to deal with rain at Richmond.
One year my wife and I got to the track late (prior commitment). We were directed into gate 2 at the front. We thought, wow how could there still be spaces here! We spent at least an hour being driven through the parking lot only to be sent out the gate on Carolina Ave! We were furious. We parked in the Warehouse parking lot across the street. That is at least a half mile or more walk to the track. It was getting close to race time, so we were running through the parking lot of a business next to the track when the bottom fell out of the sky. It rained so hard, we could barely see where we were running. We had to walk through a ditch which was filled with water by now. We were soaking wet! We contemplated turning around and going back home. Surely they wouldn’t be able to wait out that deluge. Well we decided to continue on to the track. Eventually we go to our seats. (Very nice complementary tickets from a vendor!) The rain finally stopped. They did dry the track and the race was on! We were still soaking wet, but the rumble in the chest from 43 cars flying by made it tolerable. The wind from the cars eventually dried us out and it turned out to be a beautiful night.
I’ll carry a raincoat this time and get there early. smile.png
