C.O.T. Fact or Fiction

Wednesday April 09, 2008 @ 12:18 AM EDT

Alot has been said about the newer car only after 7 races. For most its just one persons opinion. And for others it becomes more of looking back to when the teams ran different cars for different tracks. So dont let Nascar fool you into thinking that this newer car is more cost effeicient.

It may be for lets say Robby Gordon racing. But do you actually believe that HMS or RCR are using the same car that they use on the superspeedways as they do on the road courses? Heck no. They can afford to have just as many cars as they wish. Nascar never said how many cars they are allowed to keep in there stables. Why would HMS change chassis setups from race to race when they could just pull a car ready to go out of there garage?

I also seriously doubt that the teams are saving that much money. We have seen more wrecks at this time of the year then last year. Nascar doesnt just give these teams the cars. Someone is paying for them. Look at all of the mecahanical problems that they have also been having.

As far as the cars running slower? How much slower are they actually running? This past weekend at Texas they were running the same laps as they were last year at this same track. There really isnt that much of a change that is unless you are trying to find reasons to like the new car.

Another thing. This car is way before its time. Alot of you newer fans say that its best to test them during the race. Think about this. Nascar will say anything to get the blame off of there backs. Sure the teams wanted the car to come in this year. But at whose expense is all of this so called testing being burdened on? Thats right. the teams themselves. Nascar could have easily had off season test sessions. but why didnt they? Because why should they have to cover the cost when they could pass it on to the ones who were pushing for the car.

Now who’s paying the price? Us the fans. All of these C.O.T. races have been nothing short of boring. Texas used to be one of the most exciting races along with Bristol. What happened this year? You would have thought that Nascar would have learned after the fiasco at Bristol last year. Nah but instead they figure what the hell. The fans will buy it. Maybe you may have bought it. But I sure didnt.

Nascar has learned through the years on how to sell there product. They developed this car for mainly 4 reasons.

1. To be cost efficient for all teams. Has that happened? Wasnt it HMS who was able to truck in new cars after a couple of their drivers wrecked them? What ahppened to the other teams who wrecked their cars. Yup they stayed up all night to repair them just so that they could race the next day. Is that cost efficient to all teams?

2. Safer car. No matter how you look at it. The roll cage is the most important part of safety for any race car. I have seen worse wrecks in the past in the older cars and watched drivers walk away. The hans device has nothing to do with the newer car. That was mandated way before the car was even on the drawing board. So were the safer barriers. Sure they did a few mods to the car. But its still the same cage and safety devices. So how is this car any safer?

3. To slow them down. Isnt this auto racing? Isnt auto racing about having the fastest car? Now this one I really have to laugh at. Once the drivers get more used to the cars. Trust me. They will find a way to get more speed out of them. They always have in the past and today is no different.

4. To make there weekends more easier. To make it as simple as they can for themselves on the weekends. Nascar also knew that there were gonna be some teams who were gonna try to push the envelope with this car. Now its easier to catch them. Since they narrowed the margin for error. Which means more fines and more money in there pockets.

What Nascar has done is taken racing away from the crew cheifs and put it in their own hands. They did that by only allowing what they see fit as far as what kinds of adjustments can be made. What does it do for Nascar? It narrows down the grey areas. The grey areas are what makes Nascar what it was. Thats why Nascar was so unique from all of the other racing series. All they did was make it more easier for them come tech inspection time. Now instead of spending 1 to 1 and half hours. They have cut it down to 30 or 40 minutes. How convenient.

The choice is yours. Is the C.O.T. or the newer car really all that it was hyped up to be? Or is it another way for the dictatorship of the France family to keep all of their drivers and teams within there reach? Fact or Fiction Im Out
