As most of us already knows. The world that we live in is in very bad shape. Its not that hard to see that we live in a society that is full of different sicknesses and diseases. I just wrote about one of our drivers who died of A.I.D.S. back in 1989. His name was Tim Richmond. Since 1989, we now have more knowledge about this disease that takes thousands of lives each year. But the one disease that seems to be taking our world by storm is cancer.
There are all types of cancer. Some cancer if detected early enough. Can be cured. The one that I am talking about is called Melanoma. It is a type of skin cancer that attacks the bones, liver, kidneys and brain as well. If detected early enough, there is a cure for it. This type of cancer like most. Attacks both men and women. And it is also the fastest growing cancer in the U.S. and worldwide. As I am writing this blog. There is one person dying every hour from it. There are also more cases of Melanoma then A.I.D.S. or H.I.V. This cancer does not discriminate against age. It will attack all age groups. And the chances of getting it are 1 in 60.
Next month is Melanoma awareness month. Last month was autism awareness month. And at the end of the year will be breast cancer awareness month. But why should we have a certain month to recognize these diseases or illnesses? Since everyday of our lives. Someone that we may or may not know just might be suffering from some sort of illness or disease. After all when someone becomes ill from one of them.
The illness or diseaese doesn’t wait until the awareness month to infect them.
Cancer will hit when it is ready. It also doesnt wait until we have taken care of business. And it usually comes without warning. Thats what makes it even more hard on the individual as well as the families involved. Cancer has no set time table and it has no respect as to who it hits.
We have a community member who lost a loved one to Melanoma. He started out by having a simple mole. Then from there it spread into this deadly disease. He was diagnosed in August of 2004. And 42 months later. The disease took his life. Tonight I am gonna have the honor of meeting his brother and his sister in law at Toyota Speedway of Irwindale. Since they also own a car in the super late model division over here at the speedway.
The speedway is also helping them to get the word out about this terrible disease by setting them up a booth and also make announcements over the P.A. system to help spread the word.
Here is a link to the site that will explain more on what they are doing to help get the public to realize that this cancer is deadly. But that it can also be defeated.
Racing for the CureIve been around Nascar a long time. And I know that us fans are some of the best in any sport. We all have hearts not only for our families and friends. But also for each other. Since we are all one big happy family. So as one big family. Lets all get together and do what we can to fight off these diseases. It cant be done by one or two individuals. But there is power in numbers. And in this community. We are many. Im Out

Good idea to re-post this Blog
A lot of times good and important blogs like this one get moved to subsequent pages and people miss out reading them.
