MY SPECIAL HERO
From the very first race I ever watched.. it was that Black number 3 that caught my eye, didn’t know “Jack” about racing then, all I knew was, I like that car, as I began to watch races after that, I had to see who was driving that car, heard the name, but had not yet laid my beady eyes on him yet, finally a win came and an interview… awed in my facination, and totally engrossed in every word, every movement, and that “smirky little Earnhardt smile” he had, no one could have copied that! I started to grab any information in books, newspaper articles, Nascar News and sports write ups… this guy was somethin” else!!! He wasn’t your ORDINARY driver! He had an aura that glowed around him when he spoke , when he drove, the stories the “OLD” boys would pass on about him, they were so great! And the things he secretly did for others and that probably folks don’t know about yet today, he never wanted to be known for his generousity….Yep, the man had a temper! And he didn’t mind speaking his mind when he felt it necessary!
A jokester he was! And he loved to tease and taunt, he loved life , his family and most of all his racin’. He came from a poor family and earned every single right to be on that track not with any ones help, but on his own, yeah, made mistakes as they all do, but sure learned well from them, just seemed to make him better and better each year…He made a statement on one interview as I remember, he said” I’ve cheated death s-o-o-o-o-o many times!” Which he had, if you have ever seen some of his crashes, you’ll know just what I mean. Strong willed, he was, determined and sure of himself. No one can ever come close to be the man that he was… , I adored him, for being so unique. He was my Special Hero, for no other reason but being a simple man in his own right. He had it all down pat! I’m truly a “FOREVER” fan…..

Very True
Dale was the last of what so many of us know as the real NASCAR. He could build it, set it up and drive the wheels off it. He didn’t have to have the best car to win. I really think that we wouldn’t have some of the new aspects of the sport that so many don’t agree with such as the top 35 rule and the 10 race chase if he was still with us. He’s the only man I’ve stood in line for an autograph for, about 2 hours.
