Saw a strange thing today in the infield at Daytona. There’s a black No. 3 car out there standing as a tribute to Dale Earnhardt’s Daytona 500 victory 10 years ago. But it has a rear wing and a front splitter on it.
Last I checked, Big E never drove what’s now being referred to as “the new car.” But there it is, a Goodwrench Plus machine painted up just like the one Earnhardt drove to victory in 1998, long before the new car was even dreamed up. It even says “Impala” across the front, even though Earnhardt drove a Monte Carlo in his lone 500 victory.
Of course, they’re trying to sell it as a die-cast. Hey, more power to them. It’s a free country. But are there any qualms about trying to pitch a type of car the Intimidator never drove? Just wondering.

Folks, I think this is all a bit of
much ado about nothing. I do not see Richard Childress nor Teresa Earnhardt doing anything to intentionally tarnish Sr’s memory. It’s just a tribute car for the 10th anniversary of his win. It only took the man 20 years to get it, dont know why there’s anything wrong with celebrating the victory 10 years later. We have got to let go of all of this nastiness when it comes to anything having to do with the #3. The marketing gurus have pulled out commorative paint jobs, cars, haulers, t-shirts and anything else they can stick a logo on to make $$$. It is just a part of it all. If a COT car is something someone wants to collect in Sr’s honor, then so be it. In the end the fans will have their say at the cash register. Now if they want to do something really cool, why not raffle off the full-size one and give the $$$ to Victory Junction??

I do not like that car
i find it disrespectful. TEI & RCR tryig to tap futher into the fans pockets to sell Sr. as driving a care like the new car of today which he did not. shame shame shame on TEI, RCR & Nascar to even do that with such a hero!!!

Commercialism: Fans Choice?
I do believe that they should have at least marketed their idea of commemorating Sr. with a car that did indeed look like the one he drove. It just has Poor Taste to do otherwise, besides, they had to have thought about how fans would take such a thing, so they should have known better.
Commercialism however, is not to blame. I would like to go to the persons house and see just how many “Collectibles” they have, for any reason, NASCAR related and/or other wise. Well that is Commercialism Too. The dollar and it’s ability to help others and/or run a business is what makes America, America. We, the Fans, dictate to all manufacturers of such Commercialistic Items that We purchase, so it is us, the fans, who set the standards of what they make and how they represent it to us.
Don’t get me wrong, I too think it is rather Disgusting that they would allow this kind of marketing scheme using Dale Sr. or any of the Legends of the sport that have went on to races more important than the ones here on Earth!

They don't
have anything on the track burning up the registers. So go back to the well where it all began. Greed is the root of this evil.

diecast woes
If the nasccar fans suck all the hype in showing of this mock up car,and turn to “just buying” because it is different, than we have all lost sight as to it’s meaning.
Sounds like nascar has employed marketeers to stir up emotion towards the loss of Dale Earnhardt Sr. into a fan frenzie for Dale’s collectables.it is sad to hear that nascar has sunked deeply into the pits of commercializm by using such an icon.
If nascar wanted to pay tribute to Dale Earnhardt they shoul put the car he won on display, not a car that really has no place in the memory of Dale, other than it’s black and the number 3? I for one hope they can come up with a more meaningful article to celerbrate Dale’s achievements. But like you said more power to them, and shame, shame, shame.

You can say the same about it
When you hear Sr’s stats. I magine that any day now, you will hear how he won X number of Sprint Cup races and Sprint Cup championships. Are they denying the past or just kissing up to sponsers that much?

Seems silly to me...
I loved the man but I think this is over the top for NA$CAR this time.

What other odd things are you seeing?
Take care,
