There are certain races that I make certain, that I am able to watch each year.
I make sure that nothing interferes with those weekends. Not even cooking.
Those races would be all four restrictor plates, both Bristol races, both Richmond races, both road courses, and both Martinsville races.
The rest, well, let’s just say I tune in, but I may not necessarily watch them all the way through. And if there is something better to do, well, I will do it.
But Talladega has a special place in my heart. Why? Simple the Allison family. Davey Allison was the first driver that I ever really supported. And when he won at Talladega I celebrated right along with him.
When Davey died in that helicopter crash at Talladega, I was stunned. But Davey was going to the track that he probably loved the most of all the tracks. His home track.
Now that Tony Stewart is in Cup racing, a win at Talladega has alluded him. He has 6 second place finishes.
But the number one spot he has not taken yet. I guess that is why I keep watching the Talladega races, just to see if he will finally win it.
So come Sunday, I will be sitting there rooting on my driver to victory lane and hoping this time he takes that 1st place.
