NASCAR vs. other sports

Friday July 04, 2008 @ 10:42 PM EDT

Well, this has been brought up many times. Cup drivers driving in the Nationwide Series. I am totally against it. The cup drivers have made it to the top of their sport, yet almost anytime they want, they get to go to “The Minor League or collegiate version”, depending on whether you enjoy baseball or football. Think about it, if a baseball player goes back to the minor leagues, he is either injured, or not ready for the pros. In football, if you can’t cut it, you get traded or fired. Last time I looked, there has not been any professional football team going against a college team for a championship. And has there ever been a professional baseball team doing the same? Nope. In college sports, you either turn pro, or get a job. Carl Edwards, a cup driver that won a Nationwide Championship. If I am not mistaken, isn’t Mark Martin still the winningest driver in the Nationwide series? Hey, I am not putting those guys down at all. Just trying to figure out what the point is is going “backwards” with their sport. Oh, this includes Jr as well. Yes, there are many other Cup drivers doing the same thing. I am not trying to disrespect any of them. Look at a few former cup drivers that if you will be honest could not cut it in the sport. Derrick Cope, Johnny Benson, and a few others. They made it to the top, but are now driving in “the minor leagues”, simply because they did not have what it takes to “stay pro”. trust me on this..there are a few cup drivers that really need to go back and finish their “collegiate eligibility”. biggrin.png Oh, and there are a couple that need to get out of “high school” as well. ninja.png

    It's a tough call!

Since the series are starting to become different, then I don’tmind quite as much if there are some Cup drivers in there. But it depends on how they drive, Say ..Carl Edwards…I really can’t stand the guy, but do not have such an issue with him doing it since he does it full time. If they run full time, I feel like they are a part of that series too. Now as for say …Kenseth..(he is my favorite driver too) He only does it at select tracks, which kinda really sucks. It’s only for practice and not too cool in my book!
But I also understand the economic side of things too. Bobby Hamuilton Jr was qouted last year:” Bobby Hamilton Jr does not sell Busch tickets, Carl Edwards sells Busch tickets.”
SO there are some good points as well. The cup guys do increase the income of money which helps the size of the purses. It also helps bring in sponsors who might have only stayed in the cup series.
Plus, you do get some benifit of running with a few cup guys instead of having to wait until you actually make the cup series to race agaibnst them.
Now for a little irony” If a cup guy beats a Nat guy, well, its no surprise! They are cup guys afterall right?
But If a Nat guy beats a cup …*WHOA MAN! That tells you that somebody should be promoted! Look at Joey Logano and Brad Kesolotsaletters ! They should be Cup next year at the latest!

    Your sentiments

are mine also!! I have preached this to my friends and family, some of them get it, some dont. It just isnt fair to the regular guys in Nationwide. I think some of them, (Cup racers,) are so insecure they think racing in the junior league is their only chance to maybe win a few races and possibly a champoinship.(BTW, make those soft tomatoes when you throw them at me.)
