Built on the backs of blue collar workers. Now they are turning their backs on their blue collar fan base and courting the high faluters. They raise their ticket prices and rent their suites for $5,000.00 a race, but can they get 160,000 or more white collar workers to come every week?
The little guy has been faithful for generations. Yeah that’s great to expand and bring in new money but are the new fans just doing the trendy thing? Will they stay on year after year? I doubt it. The blue collars are leaving in droves and Nascar can’t figure out why. I’m trying to tell them. Listening isn’t their strong suit though.
They are squeezing out the little driver who lives next door and lives for racing. The guy we all root for. The underdogs who fight, claw, kick and scream just to win 1 race a year. The hard working honest men we can relate to and look up to.
In favor of what? A California soiree type of crowd. Soiree and Nascar go together? LMBO Not where I come from. Tailgating has been a way of life to the legions of Nascar fans for 50 years. I know there are plenty of fans who know what a soiree is and some have probably even been to one,but I’m guessing a good majority of the fans of yester-years don’t even know what that la di da word is. A flipping soiree, not what I associate with racing.
I personally associate the dark days Nascar is under now with the loss of our dear departed spokesman for the drivers Dale Earnhardt. The working crowds driver. Now we have Jeff Gordon speaking for them all. I’ve never heard of him helping to teach anyone other then a team mate. Jeff himself was helped and guided by Earnhardt. Dale didn’t keep his tips to himself. He’d tell you how to do it so he could race you all the harder.
Maybe I’m not being fair to Jeff but that’s how I feel and see it. Mr.New York city refinement. He’s got his buddy Jimmie living there too. Will we see Jr get himself some digs over there too? If that happens,I’ll roll over in my grave.
It’s like when I think of the manufactors,I can see Earnhardt and others driving an old beat up Chevy truck. Jeff and Jimmie strike me more as Escalade type of people,or beamers. Just not home town, down to earth, boy next door types to me. More the California soiree type,Broadway going,Armani suit wearing, jet set type that isn’t relatable to the blue collar, dirt under the nails lifestyle most of us live in the real world.
We allready lost a legend don’t kill our sport. We the people admire honesty and hard work. We adamantly defend our beliefs. There is not a darn thing wrong with rolling around in the mud or throwing a few punches to stand up for what you believe in and defending your position. You can plainly see that here everyday at Nascar.com/community.
We’ll fight to the bitter end for what we believe in. If the “cause” gets tarnished-well,we won’t believe in it anymore.
Blue collar workers can be faithfully loyal. When you return that favor by turning you back on them, they will turn their back on you. Trust me,I’ve known a few. They have long memories and you’ll have to earn their respect back. It will take a long time and you’ll have to work hard to earn it back. Nothing in life worth having comes easy though and they will be the most faithful friend you’ve ever had right up until the end.
So what’s it going to be Nascar? We were good enough to support building your empire are you going to wake up and smell the coffee? They are a loyal bunch of fans. Are you going to turn around and appreciate them before the rest of them turn their back on you?

Is anyone else having a problem getting a blog to post? I get half way through and it goes somewhere. K. Busch does not know the meaning of the word gift! If you are going to give someone money you give it. You don’t get on TV and brag about giving a little money to someone you admire. Only $100,000. Let someone else blow your horn. And Smoke, can he be any more ugly to someone trying to interview him " if you didn’t hear me the first time I said…they ought to quit talking to him at all. He is so full of himself to not be winning any longer. Or is he just waiting until his name is listed as owner to win. These 2 guys need lessons in humility or good manners. And yeah they use to make fun of us rednecks watching cars go in circles, now we can’t afford a ticket and they are moving it all up north or out west. Trying to shut down the southern tracks and make it a high dollar event. They even moved the end year celebration to NY City. Give me a break. Thanks guys I love you all. Becca

They
have forgotten their humble beginnings and those who rode with them to this day. Talk to any of the older drivers and you hear the same thing.

right on
I totally agree, it takes me about 13 hours to drive to Michigan to see a race, and I feel that the high ticket, beer and food prices and now the economy,is taking it’s toll. Nascar has to understand and adjust so that the working man can take his family to one of these events. Everytime a driver ( except Dale ) spoke up, they were shut up ( like Rusty and Mayfield), so they are on their own agenda and thinking the bumkins will always come, just keep them out of the way. GREAT BLOG man!!!!

Recession
Gas Prices and the uncertain economy don’t help. What about that? These things affect the entire nation… not just the little guy. Nascar has to do WHATEVER it can to insure there IS still a sport when all this financial unrest is over. (Don’t get me wrong, I can’t afford tickets either) Sponsers dropping out right and left, what is the sport to do? The economy affects all dude, (true, the little guy the most…) I appreciate your blog even if I don’t entirely agree- 5 flag vote for you my friend. God bless the U.S.A.

Unfortuneatly
It’s all part of a bigger cycle. To truely know what is besyt for Nascar, they have to screw it up first. The best way to learn if from experience and mistakes. They will not believe what we say, but will believe it when it happens. Then they can turn around and learn who nees what. Then they can get bigger and stronger!

Great blog I hope Nascar listens. They keep saying they want families, but they keep pushing families away with the cost. That is what football and baseball did.
