Ok, whenever I have an assignment in English , I usually turn to NASCAR for inspiration. No exception here with my poem assignment… lol
DARLINGTON
As day turns to night,
I can’t express my feelings.
Under the lights,
she gets ready to sing.
Oh what a sight,
to be at this track.
They get ready to fight
the Lady in Black.
It’s the hour of twilight.
It’s time for the green.
Watch out for her bite!
This track’s really mean.
Forty-three drivers,
wish for the claim,
of mastering the track
“Too Tough To Tame.”
The green flag drops.
Now the race starts.
Flashbulbs begin to pop.
The drivers begin their art.
They hit top speed,
going into Turn One.
Who will take the lead?
Who will make a run?
Coming out of Two,
it get’s really tight.
We all wonder who
will make it through this fight.
All drivers now,
wish for the same,
of suviving the track
“Too Tough To Tame.”
Down the back straight,
fans stand up to see,
all wondering if fate
allows safe passage through Three.
The field is roaring past.
They all enter Turn Four.
How long can this last?
Can they take any more?
With a thundering crash
smoke fills the air.
The cars bang and bash.
Not everyone made it through there.
Before the end of lap one,
the caution flag came.
Some are already done.
