Given the amount of money this sport is dealing with regarding Drug testing results, a simple process change would alleviate much of the garbage we are dealing with. First, take two samples, send them to different testing labs. If you get a positive result, immediately call the offender in for another test and repeat. Consistant positive results from all testing would then incur a suspension. Mixed results places you on a watch list requiring testing before EACH race for one year. A subsequent positive result would result in suspension.

If Jr. could keep the car out of the wall he might have a Great Season! AND, He'll never be the driver his dad was so a championship is unlikely.

Nothing about Ron Hornaday's story makes a lick of sense, but you bought it? Joe, say it ain't so! Hornaday is no different than Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds or Marion Jones. The fact that you and NASCAR would politicize an issue like this is horrible. Yes, NASCAR drivers are athletes and yes they can benefit from performance enhancing drugs like testosterone and HGH, to imply differently is wrong and uneducated. Had this been an athlete from another sport, you would be the first to look sideways, but here you are using your column space to defend illegal activity. Why? Because a good guy wouldn't take illegal PED's to boost his performance? Hold on, I think I have Andy Pettitte on the line.

Not a big fan of the Chase format since it's implementation. Being a 24 fan, knowing he would have won his 6th or 7th championship last year via the old format gives you a bitter taste for the Chase. But, since the only thing consistant with NASCAR is inconsistancy and change, I'm with you Joe. 12 races for 12 drivers to battle for the Championship and at tracks that test the Chaser's and their teams. Since NASCAR so wants to steal the show from the NFL it just makes since to have the "Super Bowl" race at the end of the season as does the NFL. I agree with "tnav8r" though, it makes since and it sure seems like there are a lot of people in upper management making decisions these days that don't do just that, make sense. Oh well, guess it doesn't hurt to throw the bait in the water, maybe with a good presentation the fish may just be hungry enough to bite! After all, as I said earlier, they are natorious for CHANGE so, even if they don't go for your suggestion or something remotely similar, we more than likely will see some tweaking to the Chase! Didn't NASCAR say, as with the COT, the Chase was a work in progress...let's keep our fingers crossed that they shake things up!

Great ideas for changing up the chase schedule. The only real problem that I see with it is that you used way too much common sense for it to ever become reality.

I LOVE your suggested chase schedule. As someone who lives in the Daytona area and goes to both the Daytona 500 and Coke Zero 400, I would be thrilled to trade 4th of July weekend for championship weekend. As it is, I don't mind driving down to Homestead for the weekend, but like you pointed out, why not start the season in Daytona and end it in Daytona. I think the idea is brilliant and NASCAR should REALLY consider it. Besides being the birthplace of stock car racing, there is just something a little special about the bond Daytona has with this sport. I don't want to see Homestead lose their only race, but why not give them Mother's Day weekend? Miami is nice in May (and it's not hurricane season). I, myself, would love to spend my Mother's Day at Homestead.

While I admire Tony Stewart, I wouldn't call this an admirable gamble. I am really not seeing a downside for Tony. He'll have assistance from Chevy, access to the Hass windtunnel and the thing that makes cars go faster, money. He may have a focus problem being an owner and driver, but it is happening in the sport at all levels. Robby Gordon has been doing it for years, Michael Waltrip is entering the second year of it and it is getting better for him. I would not stay up late at night worrying if Tony made the right decision. He will be fine.
