When Dale Sr. drove...
...it was a different world in NASCAR. NASCAR has changed so quickly as of late…you cannot really compare his driving style to anyone’s now…it is much different, with the new car, the influx of talented drivers and the newer rules and point system with the chase. If you want good advice, just don’t try and compare him to now. Look online, do a google search and you will find a large bit of info. There are MOTORBOOKS—one called NASCAR LEGENDS. It can be found at motorbooks.com. If you go to races, they sometimes have tables with books, and I am certain there is one on Dale Sr. I want to stress that he got his name Intimidator, not necessarily for wrecking other racers, but because when someone looked in their rear view mirror, and saw him, it was most intimidating because they new they better drive faster, move over or get moved over. I think he would bump others to say “hello, it’s me, move outta my way or else!” but I don’t think he just ran like a crazed man to run over anything that got in his way! My daddy loved him…because of his mental toughness as a driver. He still respected other drivers and had many friends…so he was well-respected because of that. I hope this info helps.
