To Decide:

Re: Your decision
Dear Tony:
Please make your decision on what you’re going to do next year. Do it soon. Today. Maybe tomorrow. By next week perhaps?
It’s not that we’re just dying to know where you’re going, it’s just that you’re holding things up in the Sprint Cup garage as far as next season goes. Tell us if you’re leaving & who your sponsors are going to be if the deal with Haas CNC Racing goes through. We’re pretty sure it is going to & you have a foot out the door of Joe Gibbs Racing, but who will be your sponsor & your teammate? C’mon, inquiring minds want to know.
Because if you leave, that opens up the No. 20 car, which could go to Joey Logano, but he’s not really ready for full-time Cup duty yet, is he? So who would go in there? Obviously the No. 20 team could garner a big-name driver, right? If it’s not Logano, could it be Truex? Or Newman? Or even Greg Biffle if he hasn’t signed his contract just yet?
Once everyone knows if you’re staying or going, we can better figure out who would be the best fit for the fourth car at Richard Childress Racing. Some people have said it’s Mears; others have said it could be Newman. Or Truex. Or an up-and-coming driver.
Tony, once you decide then the dominos would really start falling & we could all get into place for 2009. The trickle-down effect likely will impact the futures of Sorenson, Scott Riggs & others who might not be stars but still hope to find a home for 2009.
We have budgets & contracts to finalize. There are still some teams without sponsorship (Yates Racing, Bill Davis Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing’s third team, Dale Earnhardt Inc.’s fourth team & on & on) & sponsors need to know if they should start negotiating with those teams or hold out hope they could be paired with you.
Tony, we sincerely don’t mean to put pressure on you or send your team into a funk. We want you to make the right decision for yourself, so take the time you need – just not a minute more because our futures hang in the balance.
And if you can’t announce what you’re doing, can you at least whisper in our ears what you think you’ll end up doing? We promise to keep it all a secret & it would never leak out. Promise.

Who’s to say that he hasn’t dropped the bug in some drivers ears who needs to know what his decisions are & that they are already keeping it hush hush.
One thing is for certain, he knows what he’s doing his mind is made up, he’s just waiting on all final stages to close before making the announcement.

Leave?
10-4. I guess I’m still too much like his saying, “if it’s not broke, why try to fix it?”
He said himself, he’s not going to be to race forever & not much past 40 (Cup anyway). Well, this not much past 40 will only be IF he’s not having fun. But I don’t believe you’ll see him in any NASCAR car at 50 or older.
Getting part ownership with a team is his way of keeping in touch to drive part time when he’s ready to slow down in NASCAR.
Then part time in NASCAR will allow him to pay more attention to his first love, dirt racing/his own USAC & WoO team.
He already has great drivers & he’s doing a great job as owner there, I don’t think he’ll have much of a problem getting going into a Cup ownership either. Things that are wrong will be short lived because he’s not going to let that hender his progress/success.
Call his Cup ownership a little added security after retirement (semi or not). Then if things don’t go as he thought after a while, he can always sell his part of the ownership.

Great blog Smoke
and Tony-let us know so the dominos will fall allready.

Do you think he’ll JGR leave early then? What if he’s just lining stuff up for after his contract expires and faking us out? I can hope.

Maybe sooner than we think
According to all the NASCAR sports links, Tony has put out feelers for possible sponserships for the CNC/HAAS organization… And, has reportedly asked Newman if he’s interested in being the second driver on the two car team… What an awesome team that would be.
