Brian Vickers had another GREAT night in Joliet, Illinois! After starting 15th, BV was a little tight and a great call by Crew Chief, Kevin Hamlin to stay out under caution, gain Brian some valuable track position. Little by little the team worked on the car, helping Brian from restart to long runs. On the final restart, the 83 dropped a cylinder and actually blew up in turn 4 as just in time for BV coast across the finish line in 6th. That makes 7 top 16’s in a row, including 3 top 10’s and 2 top 5’s. Brian also kept his top 14 finishing streak @ Chicagoland. Great day for the 83! Brian gained another spot and is 14th in points, 95 behind 12th.

Teammate AJ Allmendinger had a great day @ Chicago with new Crew Chief Jimmy Elledge. He ended the day 13th. He holds the 37th spot in owner’s points and is 122 points behind 35th.

What challenges did you face in tonight’s race?
“We started the race pretty decent and made the car better during the first pit stops. The car started to get too loose for a long run so we had to readjust a little bit. We were really good on long runs but not on restarts. During the last stop we made adjustments to help the restarts. The car was good and we could have competed for the win with a little track position. We definitely had a top-five car. Unfortunately, the engine blew on the last lap. We were down a cylinder on the restart, so those guys got a jump on us. Then, the engine finally blew coming out of Turn four on the last lap, and we coasted across the finish line. We ended up sixth, so it could have been worse. It was a good points day for us.”
