WHOA!!! What a weekend in Daytona for Rowdy, JGR, and Interstate Batteries. Kyle did what he’s done best all season long, putting on one heck of a show and driving the car to the max. For JGR, a weekend sweep had to be special and having the 18 in Victory Lane again a plus. However, we can only imagine how much more this win meant seeing as it was the original car number and sponsor for Joe Gibbs Racing. There’s probably been a lot of pride at JGR in seeing the 18 return to it’s former glory this year after going winless since 2003, but so far the wins have been with the new primary sponsor or it’s parent companies other products. Daytona was more than just win number six… it was the finishing touch on having the 18 “back” in NASCAR. As Kyle said at Atlanta, over the radio once he won, “The 18, the 18 is back.” So another congrats go to Rowdy, Steve and the rest the 18 team, JGR, and an extra special congrats to Interstate Batteries. So, how did this all come about on the night of one of the biggest races NASCAR holds?
Well, Kyle started off the race weekend on Friday night in the Nationwide series driving the 18 for JGR. After qualifying 20th, he worked his way up through the field with driving and good pit stops until ending the night in 2nd right behind his teammate, Denny Hamlin, in the almost unstoppable 20 car.
Next came the Cup race, where Rowdy would start the night in 9th. A little luck with his driving and the usual great pit stops by the crew made it possible for him to spend most the night in the top 5 and lead maybe a quarter of the laps. He’s becoming Mr. Comeback when it comes to racing this year, as about half-way through the race he got a little “squirrelly” and ended up at the back end of the lead lap. As with the other times this year, Rowdy overcame the little bit of bad luck and before the night was out was in the right places at the right time during two late cautions to put him in Victory Lane once again. That’s three times this year that something has happened he’s had to overcome, but Rowdy and the 18 team are just that dominant this year… nothing seems to be able to hold them back for long. Next weekend we go to another Saturday night race at Chicagoland.

JGR
is giving these guys some awesome equipment and the driversa are doing their job. In both Series they are piling up the wins. I just hope that Tony Stewart joins the party, for it isn’t the same without Smoke dominating the Summer races. Also kudos to JJ Yeley for working his way back into the top 10. Only a late accident kept him from finishing there.
