I was so disappointed in the California race, I had to wait a couple of days to write my blog. Sunday I turned on picture in a picture in order to monitor the status of the race. I amazed that Steve LaTarte was able to calculate to the lap when the rain was going to come last year but all the NASCAR officials could not figure out if the Sunday race was going to run until after midnight on the east coast. Since the overriding factor in sporting events is television coverage for the sponsor who was making to the decision to continue to delay the race on Sunday. As I watched the race on Monday, clearly the attendance was minimal. How can ACS and NASCAR think the fans would sit out at the track for 12 hours and then return to the track on Monday. I hope for the sake of NASCAR they will compensate the ticket holders for the race. I have sat at TMS through the rain and attended the one race that was run on Monday. Fortunately, TMS made the decision early in the day to delay the race for a day. As I have been writing, NASCAR needs to establish a contingency plan for weather that is more fan friendly. I do hope somebody took note of Monday’s attendance and will work to make sure this doesn’t happened again.
