Robby Gordon, please. I mean are we really trying to defend this guy?!? The situation here is simple REPEAT OFFENDER.
This guy will do anything and everything to get an advantage. Remember Atlanta a few years back, when he intentionally threw the debris to get a caution flag…and a free pass?
So based on that we cannot assume that the template violation is a misunderstandering on Robby’s part. Not only are the headlight decals on the unapproved Charger nose different from the current template, if allowed they would given the 7 team a huge aerodynamic edge on the rest of the field.
I mean how is this any different than what Michael Waltrip Racing did last year at Daytona? That team was penalized 100 points, as was Robby, and was rightfully so.
Also remember he is receiving support from Gillet-Evernham Motorsports, the same team who saw all three of their cars receive the same penalty for just as bad violations at Daytona as well. So in this case we have a second repeat offender.
Seriously, this is the risk you take when you switch manufacturers late in the game, there are certain things that have to be hustled into the shop and sometimes the wrong things are given out. But if that was the case, why didn’t Robby replace it, before putting the car through inspection? I mean if the headlight decals and the look of the nose are different from the other Dodges (which they were) Robby should have notified G.E.M. or Dodge and had the problem fixed before attmepting to put the car through inspection. But no, he didn’t do that and rightfully so he was penalized for it.
Based on the evidence, current and past, the penalty on the 7 team should be upheld, and Robby’s appeal denied.
