Given the coverage Nascar receives today, perhaps toning things down a bit is not a bad thing. So, to a certain extent, I am OK with fines and probations for fighting and swearing. However, deducting driver and owner points for post race behavior is simply a crime against humanity. Today Nascar uses rule 12-4-A (Actions detrimental to stock car racing) to exert crushing power on the opinions of drivers, and that’s a very Bush-like abuse of power. There. I said it.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Ryan would be one not to mess with. But to add to that he has a little more class than to jump out of his car and want to fight before he knows what really happened.

I think
your correct. The 1st that comes to my mind today is Ryan Newman.
Boy I can’t believe I just put a plug in for OBD’s Man. LOL

On the right track
Shortxer brings up a valid point – the media seems to think it is their job to dictate how we should feel about subjects. Drivers should be allowed to express themselves however they see fit (barring use of firearms to make a point!), and let the PUBLIC make up their own minds regarding how they feel about it. Racing is not about fighting, but when a situation arises I would rather see my driver “kick some @ss” than weakly comment “that’s racing”. Who can blame the drivers for shying away from controversy when NASCAR and the media will be all over them for a week? Hockey allows it and it rarely gets mentioned, so why is racing different?

The one
thing everyone must remember about the drivers of the past is they did not have the press coverage of the drivers today. The press that was on hand at that time just made good laughs for the end of the daily news cast. They could get away with it because racing was looked at as just a bunch of “Red Necks” going in circles.
