Welcome Race Fans to this edition of NASCAR’s Burning. How about those races from Atlanta? My first thought was where are the mopars? Man did they have a tough day. How about Fire (Kyle Busch) and Smoke (Tony Stewart). That young man came a blown tire away from a three peat, and Tony blasted the Tire Manufacturer, again. Congrats to the winners, Kyle Busch in the Craftsman Truck Series, Matt Kenseth in the Nationwide Series, and Kyle Busch in the Sprint Cup Series.
Let’s get to what’s got me burning. I am chasing down the cat in the hat once again. You got it Jack Roush. I can’t believe that he has the audacity to go on a rant about supposedly being called a cheater. It has been stated by many former and drivers and crew chiefs, they look for ways outside the lines to get an advantage. But to say I will take a polygraph test so defiantly is totally ridiculous, this isn’t the OJ trial? OJ and Roger Clemens said the same thing, besides what will it prove, you believe yourself? Bad enough you were calling everyone else cheaters for two years, publicly I might add, you get caught and deny it. Way to man up to it, just take your penalty and your opinion and get back to the shop and fix your transmission problems, from Atlanta.
Let’s go to the races. The truck race was exciting. Kyle Busch driving a Toyota for Billy Ballew wins his second consecutive race and is first in points. He took the lead with four laps to go. Ron Hornaday finished in second and Mike Skinner third. Kyle has stated repeatedly that he will not race in all the events, which will be good for the Truck regulars. Mike Skinner moved up nine spots in the standings and is seventh. Jack Sprague gained eight spots and resides in the 15th spot. The biggest drops were by Erin Crowder down 7 spots and Stacy Compton down six, respectively.
The Nationwide event was again dominated by a Toyota, until a tire failure took out Kyle Busch. Matt Kenseth had a great run and went on to Victory Lane. Harvick, Burton, Edwards, and Labonte rounded out the top 5. Junior had a good run until a late wreck, but finished on the lead lap in 15th. His teammate, Brad Keselowski had an awesome run and finished 6th. The biggest gains in the standings were made by Kasey Kahne +19, Matt Kenseth, +14, and Cale Gale +12. The biggest drop in points was by Brad Coleman -9, with a slew of drivers that fell six and five spots, respectively. Props to a couple of the Regulars going out to Jason Leffler, Mike Bliss, and Marcos Ambrose, they all had nice runs. Kevin Harvick is the point’s leader, followed by last year’s champ Carl Edwards, and Kyle Busch is third.
Sprint Cup racing was interesting to say the least. The speeds dropped almost every lap. Tire issues to blame? Well I am not a tire scientist and don’t care to be. Tony Stewart seems to know a little about it though, which was echoed in much softer voices by Junior and Goron. They all had the same stuff. Toyota got its first win, and all the yahoos, came out of the closet and woodworks. Kyle Busch again led the most laps in a Cup Race, and capped it off with a win. Greg Biffle made a strong run near the end to no avail. Tony Stewart was able to hold him off as well as Dale Junior, to take second, and Junior finished third. Greg Biffle and Jeff Gordon completed the top 5. Matt Kenseth, coming from the 42nd spot worked his way up and finished 8th. The surprises so far are Greg Biffle and Brian Vickers. Biffle is showing his value to the Fedora, riding high in the two spot, and Brian Vickers, is proving that Bill Davis has some good Toyotas, is in 9th place in the standings. Surprisingly the top 12 doesn’t include Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson. But folks, it is early and that trend most likely won’t continue, as they are both knocking on the door. Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer made the biggest gains at +8, and Elliot Sadler -11 and Carl Edwards -10 dropped the most spots. The Chase standings at present have Four Chevrolets, Three Toyotas and Dodges, and Two Fords. I say things are pretty even.
My final burn has been addressed but has come to the forefront on Sunday. All of the Toyota hating fans, listen, it is what it is. What you are going to leave NASCAR because they shouldn’t be here anyway? Even Jack Roush, the biggest antagonist is still here. He can say what he wants, spread the rumors, and undermine the Governing Body. But ask yourself this, why doesn’t he just pack it up and go home? Then what will you all do start boycotting the sponsors of these cars. All American companies, I might add. No more getting stuff UPS or FEDEX, no more Caterpillar on job sites, no Interstate Batteries in our cars, boats or motor homes. The list goes on and on. Don’t forget all the associate sponsors. Probably over 100 companies in all, good hard working American people. Will you put them or yourself out of a job? Look it is now part of NASCAR, accept it. Your spouse has accepted you for what you are and still loves you and treats you with respect. So love and respect NASCAR the same, just don’t like everything about it. I hate to lay out you diehards, but just some info about that Hardcore Chevy Guy Mr. Hendrick. He owns multiple car dealerships; Chevy of Course, Dodge/Jeep, Honda, BMW, and Toyota/Scion. Yes I said Toyota. It is true just go to Google. So I guess you will all have to boycott HMS as well. Say Hello to millions of new fans, Jack Roush, Roger Penske, and Ray Evernham. If you all get a chance please read the article by Joe Menzer on the main page, great stuff.
Well boys and girls I bored you all enough. I have so many burns this week I may be back for just a couple of them this week. For now take care as the teams move on to Bristol, where yours truly will have a front row seat. You all take care and all my clones; let me have it, I’m Out.
