TEXAS...HIGH SPEEDS AND DRAMA!

High Speeds and High Drama: This 1.5 mile quad-oval near Fort Worth Texas has hosted NASCAR racing since 1997 when its first NEXTEL Cup race started with a huge wreck in turn 1. Since then the track has seen many good races mixed in with extremely high speeds.
The qualifying record stands at over 194 MPH making it one of the fastest speedways on the schedule yet the tricky track also averages almost 9 cautions per race. The frequent cautions keep the field racing close together which, in turn, makes for exciting finishes.
First NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Winner: Jeff Burton – 1997

Bill Elliott’s 212.809 MPH lap at Talladega in 1987
Bill Elliott’s 210.364 MPH lap at Daytona in 1987
Geoffrey Bodine’s 197.478 MPH lap at Atlanta in 1997
