LMS October 08 Race

This crew doesn’t seem to get a lot of blogs, but I wanted to post in hopes of getting opinions from others.

My friends & I have camped at LMS for the past several years and really enjoy it. Camping and tickets in the past have been “reasonable” – meaning we girls of small finances have felt the experience has been worth the cost.

When we camped in May we learned of a new rule (or perhaps it’s an old rule just now being enforced) that says only 1 camping aparatus per spot, which means you could either have a camper or 1 tent. How ridiculous! We could put up 3 1-2 person tents in the same (or less) space than a camper. So, now we’re supposed to buy 2 lots at $75 a pop and we still only get to set up 2 tents and not 3? Frankly, that’s not worth my $$$.

Also, the tickets for the October race have always been less expensive than those for May. This year they are just as expensive. In fact, tickets for the Nationwide race are more expensive than the Cup tickets we bought in May!

With as boring a race as this year’s 600 was (not to mention all the other tracks) I’m certainly not paying $125 for a ticket to an October snooze-fest, especially when we would have to buy 2 camping spaces for 2 tiny tents. We actually have 3 tents because all 3 of us girls want our own sleeping space, but it’s ridiculous to pay for 3 spots when it’s way, way more space than we need.

So, is this the trend at other tracks now? Is low attendance forcing a price increase? Or is this specific to LMS and Bruton Smith is just using NASCAR fans to fund his dragstrip venture?
