Thank you Rick Hendrick

Hello fellow Kyle Crew members! I’m sure you all enjoyed yesterday’s race as much as I did. It’s awesome to see our boy make history again.

You probably wonder about the title of this blog…..but I’m not being sarcastic. I do thank Rick Hendrick.

I was upset last year when I felt like he let go of Kyle for a name. And I was concerned about Kyle’s season this year with all the changes he had to make. But now that I have seen the begnning of this season I can’t help but believe that Mr. Hendrick really did do our boy a big favor.

#1 – It gave Kyle some humility.
Kyle’s been racing for years. he’s been winning for years. In many different levels of the sport. I’m sure that we can all relate to the invincible feeling that we can get when we’re at the top of our game. It doesn’t hurt any of us to have a little humility imposed on us in that situation.

#2 – It strenghtened Kyle as a business person.
As we grow up we all have experiences that teach us more about life. Some of them aren’t pleasant….but those are usually the ones we learn the most from. Hopefully we can learn that it’s not personal, but buisness. I think Kyle learned that lesson from all of this.

#3 – It allowed Kyle to find the place where he truly fits best.
I thank Rick for giving Kyle the shot at making it into the “big leagues”. He had the confidence in him to give him the chance that he needed. But I don’t think that Hendrick’s stable was the place where Kyle fit in the best. Forcing him to step outside of that comfort zone and choose where he thought he’d fit best was a blessing in disguise. I think Kyle has found that spot. Watching him in interviews you can really see his personality emerging. Even before his wins he seemed so much more confident and at ease.

And bottom line, the whole experience has helped our boy become the “great Man” that D.W. eluded to when he made the statement “he may be a real bad boy, but he will be a great man”.

If you haven’t had the chance to see the Press Pass interview with Kyle after Sunday’s race, take a moment to watch it. I think you’ll be really impressed with what you see.

What I saw first off was a tired person! I think he wore himself out this weekend.
What I saw second was a very knowledgable driver. Kyle’s dad started at an early age teaching Kyle responsibility. He let Kyle race, but Kyle was responsible for his race cars. He had to know how to build them, and when he wrecked them he was responsible for fixing them. This has given him the ability to have a thorough understanding of the cars he’s driving and to give the best possible feedback to his crew chief.
Third thing I saw was humility. He gave his crew credit, he gave the the other drivers credit, he mentioned the things he did wrong, he acknowledged his struggles, he acknowledged that he’s “flattered and fortunate enough to have the abilities that I have and for them to talk about it the way that they do, but all I can do is go out there and do my best”.

All I can say is….Kyle, Thank you for doing what you do!!!

And once again, Rick Hendrick, thank you!
