This rain hurts me as much as it hurts the rest of us

3M Performance 400

Michigan Int’l Speedway

August 19/20/21, 2007 (Delayed because of the stupid rain)

Well, as if last week wasn’t bad enough for us Harvick fans, it HAD to rain in Michigan. And it just HAD to rain at the worst possible time for all of us. As it stands now, after what happened at the Glen, Kevin Harvick sits 10th in the points, 126 points AHEAD of Kurt Busch. At this point last year, we were 3rd in points with 2 wins already! (As we all know, he ended up with 5 wins but finished 4th in the Chase.)

So back to the rain. We were supposed to start 28th on SUNDAY!!! Then it poured, so no racing on the 19th. So we’re gonna try again today! But no, Mother Nature decideds to literally rain on our parade by forcing us to wait until Tuesday! If it rains again, well there’s a chance we’ll see the race on Wednesday, but I doubt it, because Wednesday night is the Truck Series race in Bristol! How will they even prepare for two big races only in the matter of hours?!? It can’t be done!

So, now there’s one more option, NASCAR’s doomsday plan: Running the race on Thanksgiving weekend.

I know, sounds impossible, doesn’t it? Well, you’re dead wrong. The last time NASCAR ran a race on Thanksgiving weekend was in 2001 in New Hampshire (Robby Gordon won that race, that guy can drive anything, in any condition), in 41 degree weather! There was a different scenario back then though.

- Back then, it was Winston Cup instead of NEXTEL Cup.

- Back then, we didn’t have the Chase for the Cup format, it was just running all 36 races for the title.

- Back then, the race was cancelled because of the 9/11 attacks in New York, Washington, and in Pennsylvainia. Mother Nature wasn’t involved in this one whatsoever, just blame the crappy terrorists!

- Back then, we were either out Christmas shopping (since the race was on Black Friday), at home watching it on TNT, or sitting in the frozen stands watching it with our very own eyes! Either way, we froze our butts off (except if you lived down south) doing one of the three!

Well, this is 2007, things are totally different. If it’s run on Thanksgiving, then all hell would break loose for NASCAR because that would totally affect the Chase in every way possible!

So let’s just keep our fingers crossed that this race will go through tomorrow.
