First off, congrats to Denny Hamlin. It was nice to see him win, this week especially at his home track, and because so many of his shoulda-been-wins were lost by mechanical failures, or accidents. So congrats to him.
Now to what this blog is really about. Hendrick. What a shocker. It was great to see all four driver running well. Especially Mears. its been a tough first 5 races and to see them all seem to bounce back, especially Mears was great. I was talking on friday with members in here about what would happen if he didn’t perform well this weekend, whether or not Mr. Hendrick would start to look to change driver or crew chief(even though I think Alan Gustafson is one of the best crew chief in the series) I said, lets just hope he runs well enough and doesn’t have any problems and so he did. he ran with the leaders and avoided the trouble that seemed to follow him and moved up to 27th in the standings. I was impressed with the rebound at Hendrick. They never seemed to panic when Gordon was crashing out of races, or Johnson had poor finished with tough cars or MEars was struggling to run well. It was great to see the 24 team bounce back after being involved in the crash on lap 57. the feelings of here we go again started to set in, but a couple of pit stops, and Gordon was charging his way back up the field. Johnson spin after the restart you thought could this really be happening, can they really all come back and finish or even contend for the win, and so they did all four of them. A little validation for a team that in reality does not need validation, but found themselves defending the organization as whole for struggling performances and bad luck instead of defending a championship run. I think that shows the strength of this organization. The week off most benefited them it gave every one of those drivers and crews a chance to step back and reevaluate and it helps that the next couple tracks play well right into hendricks wheel house. I was disappointed it wasn’t a win for HMS but glad to see them start to right a ship. Every blog i was reading and many articles doomed the powerhouse organization only 5 races in. I am not surprised though with how well they ran last year, you expected the articles to boast claims of the end of dominace. But while they have yet to win any races this year. Gordon, JJ, Jr have all ran well, just bad timing and rough luck. Sunday they dominated the race leading majority of the race only to fail to lead the final lap. I was content with the finish and who knows one more lap maybe Gordon would have been able to run down Hamlin and maybe not. But this is a sign of things to come for an organization that internally never really panic as the rest of garage scratched there head as to what happened to a team that ran away with the cup last year.So on to texas where Burton won last year, and where Hendrick should run well. See you in texas!!
