I have three children. I raised them all to be Jeff Gordon fans. My oldest son is a junior in college now and we often have discussions and differing opinions on the idea of a “chase”. I think the chase is ridiculous and if I were a driver, I’d feel like there was no point in racing any longer after the chase contenders were determined. After all, the NASCAR “officials” want NASCAR to be like “other sports” and have a “playoffs” of sorts. Well, in the playoffs, those who don’t make it don’t play anymore. So, what is the point of even driving in races if you don’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell to win anyway? We don’t need to be like “other sports” because racing is a completely different animal. I say let ALL racers contend for the championship all the way to the bloody end. Yes, it does become quite apparent who has the best shot at it but at least everyone is still fighting for it.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on the chase? Do you like it? Hate it? Don’t care either way? I’m just curious.

the chase ist
the chase to me. I see what your saying that those drivers who don’t make the chase especially those in the 11 and 12th position theres no real fight once it begins but there are drivers racing for the top 35, and overall standings. But the chase is our playoffs as backwards as it is, it does work. If someone can come up with a better plan that carres the intrigue and the ratings in a 11 month sport than maybe it will change!! good blog!!
