Micheal McDowell will be taking over the 00 car at Martinsville when David Reutimann takes over the 44 car that Dale Jarrett will be stepping out of.
I for one don’t think this is such a good idea. Sure he has a pretty good resume with: a go-karting national championship, Star Mazda rookie of the year and North American champion, a victory at Mexico City in the Rolex Sports Car Series, two Champ Car top-12 finishes at age 20, ACRA rookie of the year, but he is skipping over the Nationwide Series.
The Nationwide Series has been the training ground for upcoming drivers who entered the Sprint Cup Series. Is he just that good of a driver to jump from the Arca Series straight to the big leagues?
I watched the kid alot last year and I would say yes he can drive a race car, but I don’t think he should jump the Nationwide Series. Here is a comment made by McDowell “It’s great to be here now but in three months, if I don’t perform, I’ll be gone that quick,” he said. “I really haven’t let it sink in that I’ve arrived, because I haven’t arrived. I’ve been given an opportunity and I’ve got to prove myself in that opportunity before I can say I’ve arrived.”
McDowell is taking a big step here and where will Micheal Waltrip be if McDowell doesn’t perform well? I think they should really look at what they are doing here and re-think McDowell’s future.
Truex did exactly what should be done. He ran the Nationwide Series for 2 years and was back to back champion. He didn’t come over to the big leagues right after his first championship, he stayed another year and improved himself and matured, then he went to the Sprint Cup Series and is doing really well.
McDowell has every thing you could ask in a driver and could be one of the next greatest. I just hope he isn’t jumping into something he will never be able to dig himself back out of. Good Luck McDowell & MWR.

A good idea for them
would be to have him run a few races in the Nationwide untill he goes into the cup. I think that you should have to race at least one season in the Nationwide befor the cup, it gets them alot more experins, but thats just what i think.

Yep
That’s the way things should be Catfish. If you had a million dollar piece of machinery you wouldn’t just put a rookie on it to run it. lol

I agree!
I think all Cup drivers should come from Nationwide first! It’s akin to working at a factory for 30 years. Youwork your way up the ladder only to have an inexperienced person become your supervisor because his uncle owns the factory. everybody should earn their way into Cup racing!

He won some poles and I watched him come from the back of the pack to win a race. Micheal is sitting on a gold mine if he doesn’t mess it up.

I would like to see him in the Nationwide Series first as well. They say he has all the tools though. We will find out.
