I’ve been fortunate over the last couple of years and have been able to attend Cup, Busch/NW, and Craftsman Truck races at various tracks. I’ve decided to rank the tracks I’ve been to. It’s not perfect and it’s not sequential. Picking Atlanta over Texas of visa versa is indefensible since I enjoy them both. I’ve grouped them into top, middle, and bottom tiers based on my experience, however, each experience has varied somewhat since I’ve watched the races in the grandstands, suites, and on pit road. Your experience may be different based on your vantage point and personal taste. Take my opinion for what it’s worth.
Top Tier
Bristol (simply the best)
Dover (great view of all the action)
Atlanta (fast, great facility)
Charlotte (lots of action, very nice facility)
Texas (great view and fast, great facility, traffic is iffy)
Middle Tier
Kansas (great facility, could be in top tier if i’d gotten around more)
Kentucky (parking sucks, track is ok, facility is nice)
Nashville (very nice facility and good action)
O’Reily Raceway Park-ORP (getting on up there in years)
Memphis (older track but good racing)
Bottom Tier
Daytona (parking is crazy, can’t see the action on entire track)
Talladega (can’t see the action on backstretch, but tailgating is great)
Indianapolis (can only see what is directly in front of you, parking sucks)
Martinsville (tear it down and move the race to Kansas)

I don't care which track it is
The Fan experience makes every single race better. Beer, BBQ, Friends…..That is the Ultimate Race Experience.

The best track...
has everything – the fans, the atmosphere, and great racing
It sounds like I have some more travelling to do if I am going to make it to those top tier tracks!

fans and atmosphere
have always been great at every track with the only exception being Dega during a beer throwing contest. nothing beats NASCAR fans sitting in the parking lot throwing down some beer and food.

thanks...
for the information. We will probably still go next year just because its easy to get to that race after the Charlotte one in the fall. When you come as far as we do – its worth it to take the time to see 2 races

Track ratiings
There’s a lot more to rate than views from different tiers. Going to the track is all about the fans and energy from the track. If you want a really good seat and view, the living room is always best. Of the tracks I have been to this year, here’s my rating:
Infineon is great for me cause I work in the pits and see the races from the teams vantage point. It’s a road course so you never see the whole track from any seat.
Daytona is all about the infield. Camp in the infield and watch the race from the fan zone above pit lane.
Talladega is a party, especially in the free campground. The bump drafting is awesome even if you can only see it for 1/4 of the track.
Lowe’s most seats have great view of the race but camping and hangin out is too spread out and quiet.
Las Vegas has good views of the track, but too HOT
Bristol- Never been but on top of my wish list.

Martinsville
first, the traffic was nuts. the parking lot was nothing but mud. you were in a field and parked on a hill. the facility is old and run down. the mid-way area was spread out all over the place and was muddy and poorly set up. at the time i was there, the track needed to be resurfaced. the racing was more bumping and pushing vs. good side by side action. poor qualifiers didn’t have a prayer of making it to the front, regardless of how good a driver they were. just not my preference…. it was great meeting you as well.

kansas
i watched the race from pit road, so i probably missed out some on the view of the action. i like the track and the facility. i’d love to get back there someday, do some tailgating, and sit in the grandstands.

nice list Realist...
I’ve never been to Martinsville and was thinking about it for next year… but I see that its at the bottom of your ranking… can you elaborate as to why you don’t like that track? By the way – it was AWESOME meeting you this weekend!
